What Makes Treetop Preschool Unique
Choosing the right preschool can be scary and overwhelming. You want your child's first experience with school to be a joyous one that encourages them to love school and continue wanting to learn for years to come. You also want an environment that helps them develop their social skills, such as sharing and working together to solve problems, while also building self confidence and independence.
Treetop Preschool was created with the belief that there is not one perfect philosophy to teaching children. Each style, from play based to strictly academic, has both benefits and disadvantages. For example, play based preschools help develop a child's social skills and vocabulary with peer, but it can also make the transition to kindergarten more difficult as they are not prepared for the more structured day. Montessori allows children to comfortable explore what they are interested in, but children may miss out on new interested if not encourage to step out of their comfort zone. With this in mind, Treetop's curriculum, daily schedule and teaching through both group and individual learning allows us to blend the benefits of multiple philosophies and preparing children for all aspects of kindergarten. Throughout the day, each student will have the following opportunities:
-
Group Learning: This introduces kids to what kindergarten will be often like and helps them adjust to sitting among peers, taking turns talking, listening and building ideas off one another, quietly listening to stories, songs and keeping their body safe and calm in small spaces.
-
One-on-One Learning: Student work one-on-one with the teacher so that the learning that occurs with each project can be differentiated to challenge each child appropriately. Through science experiments, art projects and math games, students engage many of their senses to cognitively connect what they are learning to long term memory. When kids are having fun, learning doesn't feel like work but instead is a life lesson they relate to a positive memory.
-
Free Play: Students will have a variety of toys, manipulative, puzzles and games to play throughout the day. This is a great way to develop friendships with peers as they find classmates who are interested in similar games and activities. Through these activities, students develop their social and emotional growth with peers. We facilitate helping them learn how to share, take turns, be patient and use kind words to express their feelings.
-
Team Bonding: Often we have the whole class work together to create something or solve a problem. For example, the whole class works together to build the tallest Magnatile tower. Students learn how to listen to others, try different ideas and learn that mistakes are a great way to learn. This helps to build confidence and develop a willingness to try things without fear of failing.
Our belief is that children truly learn when they are having fun. Therefore, we developed our curriculum to focus on learning through art, science, math games and physical activities that engage children in fun and unique ways. Through our designed activities, students become excited to learn more, ask questions and problem solve on their own. When students are driven to learn more, we are able to guide them on a path that creates long lasting retention of what they are learning.
Through this method, academics isn't the only thing they are learning. This process also encourages students to believe in themself, have confidence to make mistakes, and that they have the ability to solve many different problems on their own. They will understand the importance of friendships, listening to others and helping one another. Students will be able ready for all aspects of kindergarten, from academic standards to being a good friend to others!
